Satuday Stories chapter 32!

Hello! How are you all today? Hope your having an amazing week. Now I know again its been one ETERNITY since I've posted but bear with me because sports season is startin' up again and that's just another thing that prevents me from posting. But besides that please still follow me on my instagram and subscribe (I think is what it is) to this blog! Thx!

    GYMNASTICS NEWS OF THE WEEK!
Since I've posted last a lot has happened such as: Winter cup; Nastia cup; NCAA Season beginning and many shocking announcements.

    Winter Cup
Winter Cup! One of the most exciting meets for the US of the year. It always kicks off the season with a big bang and just lets us see where everyone is after a few months since worlds and the beginning of the '23 season. We have Lexi Zeiss coming in first with a total All Around score of 53.200. She is committed to LSU for college and I'm excited to see her shine there. She got a 13.450 on vault, 13.500 on bars, 13.100 on beam and 13.150 on floor. Lexi was an alternate for the '22 US world team. I feel like this is gonna be the season where she proves herself to be as good as she is. Coming in second we have Ashlie Sullivan from WOGA clinching bronze on both beam and floor, great to see her do good at winter cup. 3rd Nola Mathews extremely close to making the world team last year I believe she had a fall on bars that messed her up but it's chill. Vault champ the queen herself Joscelyn Roberson that girl has such a chance at Paris and I have faith she can. Honestly its gonna be REALLY hard picking a US team for Paris. There's a chance we could see the past 3 Olympic all around champions competing together. Suni Lee, Simone Biles, and Gabby Douglas (who we'll get to later). Bars went to Zoe Miller Beam was Skye Blakely she was on the worlds team last year. That girl is a beam QUEEN! Her routine JAM PACKED with difficulty she just  needs to nail it and she's got a world or even Olympic title in her hands. Floor went to Kaliya Lincoln I dont know anything about her I'm sorry Kaliya if you are reading this but I'm assuming she is a rookie but still I'm excited to see her in the future.

Nastia cup

With two 39.075s, Neff and Chio were crowned Nastia Liukin Cup champions. It seemed the right result after they proved to be the most prepared and complete gymnasts in the field. I honestly did not see anything about this so that's all I know.

NCAA!
(according to NCAA),  "Alabama (197.720) 7 California (197.825) 9 Kentucky (197.710) 10 Michigan St. (197.595) Illinois (196.745) Western Michigan (196.590) Iowa (196.650) West Virginia (196.515) 1 *Oklahoma (198.355) 2 Florida (198.110) 16 Ohio St. (197.100) 15 Arizona St. (197.105) Arkansas (197.080) Maryland (196.710) NC State (196.460) Towson (196.450) Ball St. (196.395) Penn St. (196.415) 5 Utah (197.910) 6 LSU (197.840) 12 Auburn (197.480) 11 Oregon St. (197.490) Southern Utah (196.820) Georgia (196.955) Washington (196.585) Nebraska (196.730) 4 *UCLA (197.950) 3 Michigan (198.080) 13 Missouri (197.115) 14 *Denver (197.445) Stanford (196.930) Minnesota (197.015) BYU (196.400) Arizona (196.570) Boise St. (196.285) North Carolina (196.295)" These are the top scores this season so lets get into some meets.

We'll start with big 10s which honestly session 1 BELONGED to Minnesota like they killed it. Mya Hooten is a floor QUEEN! Like I cannot describe how crazy this girl is she just kills it. Session one was Minnesota, Penn State, Rutgers, Illinois, Nebraska and Maryland. Session two was Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and Ohio State. Michigan won this session. Michigan State in 2nd and I don't remember who got 3rd I'm just gonna say its Ohio State but knowing my luck its gonna be Iowa but you know how I am. Michigan was the overall B1G champ then Michigan State then Minnesota so congrats to Michigan for that. Big 12 honestly we all knew it was gonna be OU I mean they just crush. Pac 12s my favorite  (according to PAC 12 network)," Nine of the 12 received at least one first-team status, while the 12 collected a total of 26 awards among first-and-second-team honors in the all-around and the vault, bars, beam and floor events. The 12 honorees were the second-most among all conferences in 2023. Back-to-back Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year Jade Carey led the way as the conference’s only gymnast to earn the maximum Regular Season All-America First Team honors, picking up the award in the all-around and all four individual events. UCLA’s Jordan Chiles collected the second-most in the Pac-12 with first-team awards in the all-around and three events (vault, bars, floor), while teammate, 2023 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Selena Harris, was a first-team honoree in the all-around and earned second team honors in the vault, bars and beam. UCLA junior Chae Campbell rounded out the Bruin honorees with second team status on vault and floor." Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey tied for the floor title, Jade won the All Around title as well as the beam title. Now the shining star SECs yes this is probably the most exciting championships yet because jam packed with greatness. (according to Southeastern Conference), "Session one was Auburn, Georgia, Mizzou and Arkansas. Session two was Florida, Kentucky, Bama and LSU." Florida killed as per use. They won because like its Florida so yeah. It doesn't really say the standings  I just know Florida won so like that's all we need to know.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
First Gabby Douglas! She is currently training at WOGA and that's wow. She retired in 2016 and is coming back maybe.
Second today Whitney Bjerken announced her retirement from gymnastics she was committed to Bama but got injured at the beginning of the season. ;-(

Saturday Stories Chapter 31!

Hello Blogger World! (That's gonna be my new intro!) I know I know its been FOREVER again and I'm trying I really am and I hope you understand but I'm trying. So today I'm going to be doing an extremely late worlds recaps in gymnastics news of the day so I think that will be fun. Oh and quick announcement this is my first ever blog typing with the home row which is also extremely exciting! Enjoy!

                    GYMNASTICS NEWS OF THE WEEK!

Not very weekly but some what late I'm Sophie reporting live from my house in a tiny town in PA.  This is very exciting because it is extremely late worlds recap.

Worlds Recap

So here I will tell you about the different finals and podium finishes. First we will talk about the amazing and historic team final. Canada Bronze, Great Britain Silver, and for the six-peat USA for Gold. Not only did the US make history with their six-peat, but GB got their best ever finish in a team final but historic Canada made an utterly amazingly historic moment by winning their first ever medal in a team final. The true star on Canada is obviously the amazing Ellie Black, but some of the other stars are Emma Spence and Sydney Turner. Now a name missing from this team is the great Brooklyn Moors, Brooklyn is currently at UCLA and is on their gymnastics team with fellow world champion, Ana Padurariu, Brooklyn is shooting for Paris but is focusing on NCAA at the moment. After this amazing competition, Ellie was literally on the floor crying after her amazing beam routine. By the way, the fact they got bronze ending on beam is even more unbelievable. Now the stand out performances from GB were obviously the great Gadirova twins both competing floor and doing amazing. Another stand out performance was Alice Kinsella who is the European silver and gold medalist gold on beam 2019 silver all around 2022. Also part of the bronze medal winning team at the Olympics in 2021. For the US I'd say the one that stood out to me the most would be Jade Carey's beam routine. I know, not a very high score but I think it deserved higher but it was truly just considering  she's not normally a beamer that's a pretty high score so I'm proud of her. The other good ones Shilese Jones Bars and Floor both amazing performances and the other one Jordan Chiles Vault, Floor just absolutely impeccable.

All around stand out performance obviously the great Rebecca Andrade (SAY: quebec ondrad mom's gonna scream when she sees that). She is something else just amazing vault amazing floor amazing everything. Bronze Jessica Gadirova GB Silver Shilese Jones USA and history maker Gold Rebecca Andrade first ever Brazilian to win the All Around title at a worlds. Jessica Gadirova first British gymnast to win an all around medal she made other history (spoiler alert she did it on floor). Shi we all expected to win a medal Alice got 4th Ellie got 5th and Jade got 6th.

Vault final for me the most exciting and my favorite. Bronze Coline Devillard FRA Silver Jordan Chiles USA and gold finally Jade Carey so amazing for her love to see her win her first WORLD individual gold very exciting also amazing for Coline Devillard of France first French woman since 2009 to do so and Jordan I'm also very happy for first ever individual medal so proud and happy.

Bars Bronze Nina Derwael BEL Silver Shilese Jones USA and Gold defending her title Wei Xianion (I think that's her name), of China Wei just beautiful pirouettes and release moves amazing performance also from Nina and Shi. Shi obvious favorite as well as Nina. All of  them amazing performances over all.

Beam Bronze Shoko Miyata JPN Silver Ellie Black (yay!) Gold Kokoro Fukasora JPN. Shoko one of my personal favorites Ellie so happy for proud of Fukasora very exciting 4th Marine Boyer of France and Skye Blakely of the US came in 5th with a fall which is insanity the way this girl can do that it just blows my mind.

Floor Bronze tie Jade Carey and Rebecca Andrade Silver Jordan Chiles and Miss triple historian Jessica Gadirova of GB for Gold. Amazing performances for everyone. Other amazing performances were Martina Maggio ITA and Naomi Visser NED. Naomi has the most beautiful turns because of her long legs she's amazing.

                   SATURDAY STORIES CH 31!

"Hi Mom!" yelled Steph as they got in the van. "Hi Steph, hi girls!" "First we're off to Catsville for Jenny," said Steph's mom. A few minutes later "bye Jenny! We'll miss you!'' They yelled. "Bye girls!" yelled Jenny tying to tug her luggage into her house. Hours later, Steph and Shawna were left. Shawna was staying with Steph for a few weeks because her parents were out in Italy for a work trip. "Hey Steph! You've gotta see this Instagram post!"

Saturday Stories chapter 30!

So, I'm back with Saturday stories. Hope y'all had a fantastic week! Just so you know, I'm really tired today because I just got back from a harsh soccer game. It was full on just aggressive, it was raining, people got injured, (yes pray for them), not to mention the other team was shoving us a lot so yeah. But we still came out on top so that's good. So this might not be my best writing i've ever done on this blog. So yeah that's all I have to say hope you enjoy!!

               Gymnastics News of the Week

 Gymnasts of the week!

So we have to give some shout outs to some gymnasts. So first we have, Olympic Gold Medalist and 3 time world silver, it's Jade Carey! Jade is just flat out amazingness! I mean listen to her achievements, olympic GOLD medalist on floor exercise, 3-time world silver medalist (vault twice, floor once) and a world gold medalist (team) she's competed in two world championships Montreal 2017 (two silvers, floor and vault) and Stuttgart 2019 (1 silver on vault and 1gold in the team final) and the most recent olympics in Tokyo and came out golden on floor! This girl is also a gold medalist from the Paris world cup on vault and a silver on beam. Jade is also doing NCAA gymnastics for Oregon State, (go beavers), and has multiple perfect 10s on bars and floor.

Next we have world silver medalist, Elsabeth (Ellie) Black! Now you might be thinking, who's that? Only the most successful Canadian gymnast of all time! 3 time olympian and world silver medalist! I love this girl OMG! She's the 2017 world all around silver medalist! (Yes behind Morgan Hurd) So yeah I know I mentioned her last week when she finally got her first eponymous skill in the code. It's an uneven bars release, it consists of a clear hip circle with counter pike over the high bar with a half turn to hang in mixed L grip (sorry I got the info wrong last week). It was given a G (0.700) rating which is one of the highest ratings on the uneven bars. Yay Ellie!!

Skill spotlight

One my favorite skills in the code used to carry the name of former american gymnast and olympic gold medalist, Nastia Liukin. It consists of a front aerial to swing of the leg backwards to arabesque. The arabesque must be held for at least 2 seconds, or else you will get around a 0.100 deduction. Nastia always did it fantastically but now a days, unfortunately, nobody's doing things with arabesques anymore which is sad.

                         Saturday Stories

 Chapter 30: WE MADE IT!!!

"Ozzy, Ozzy!" said Nikki. Finally, they had landed. After 12 hours on a plane, they were back in Minnesota. "What huh? we're here?" she replied with a yawn. "Yep" said Nikki. "I'm to tired to go," said Ozzy, still yawning. "Sorry about your luck but we have to" replied Nikki. "ugh fine" said Ozzy, groaning. "Girls, you alive up there?" said Nikki to Jenny and Lay. "yep" "we're good" they said. Finally they exited the plane and ran towards Steph's Mom's van waving with excitement.

                               Shout outs

Once again Ellie Black @ellieblack Jade Carey @jadecarey Nastia Luikin @nastialuikin Morgan Hurd @morgihurd my amazing editor/Mom @groovypq (she's very groovy) and me @sophiesketchesnstretches. Again PLEASE follow me on instagram. So long, fare well! Peace!

Saturday Stories 29 (catch up)

So, hi everyone. I know its been one eternity since I've posted but now a days I'm a very busy human being and I'm sorry. Later in this I'll explain why it's been so long. And I'm going to do this a little different I'm going to do it like a newspaper so yeah hope y'all enjoy!!:-)

               GYMNASTICS NEWS OF THE WEEK!!

      NEW SKILL!

Just hours ago Canada's Elsabeth Black submitted her very first eponymous skill in the code of points at the Paris world challenge cup. The world silver medalist created a brand new Uneven Bars release. It consists of a clear hip circle to a straddle release with a half turn to hang in mixed L grip. Ellie did it so cleanly with very little deduction making it so easy for her to claim the Black.

   So unfortunate!

Now, some unfortunate news bears. Team USA's Shilese Jones fell while trying to create her first eponymous skill in the code. Her skill consists of a stalder root to a Nabieva. (SAY: Nab EE AY va) (NABIEVA: Named after former Russian gymnast Tatiana Nabieva) (2011 world uneven bars silver medalist) (this release consists of a clear hip circle to a release move in a stretched position) But the 20 year old failed to catch the bar and the code states that the gymnast has to successfully perform it in major international competition for it to carry their name in the code of points. But there are many more opportunities for this impeccable athlete to stamp her name in the code. Shi is also committed to Florida for college. Shi sure can fly!

Fantastical Floor!

Yep its most people's favorite event Floor Exercise. American gymnast Jordan Chiles hit a beautiful floor routine in the qualification round of the Paris world challenge cup. The UCLA rockstar has gotten a perfect 10 on floor in NCAA in the previous NCAA season.

SATURDAY STORIES CHAPTER 29!!!!!!!!!!

 GOODBYE WISCONSIN!

"All right" said Nikki to Ozzy. "Lets get goin'" "bye dorm!" they both said at the same time. "Lets go meet the girls in the lobby." Then they walked into the elevator and pressed the floor one button. A few seconds later they all found themselves hugging and saying good bye to Mrs. Lanardo (SAY: lan ARD O) and Mr. Compiask (SAY: com PEE ahsk) "we'll come and visit sometime!" then they finished saying goodbye and ran out to the van that was headed to the airport. Jenny and Lay took a selfie together in front of the window for instagram. caption: "Goodbye beautiful ol' Wisconsin. We love ya'" "We're out of Wisconson" said Mishy. "Its Minnesota time baby!" "Oh yeah!" replied Nikki "Lets do this" stated Ozzy

                       WHY THOUGH?

So I said at the beginning that I would tell you why I haven't posted in forever. Mainly two reasons:

1:Sports/Covid- so with this I ended up getting covid unfortunately. Luckily 1 I didn't get it bad 2 no one in my family got it from me. So I got it in an after school club at school so a kid in my group got covid and didn't know it and I was the unlucky out of the three that could of gotten it but it was just me. So yeah that November wasn't fun but I did recover in time for Thanksgiving. Sports I always have games on weekends on Saturdays and Sundays and SCW wise I'm trying to get in touch with someone VERY special so you'll have to wait and see who.

2: School/Mental health- one thing you may not know about me is I have anxiety/selective mutism which I've progressed with a lot through the years. School is a big part of my anxiety. but it also takes a lot of time.

So that's really all about that I will try to post as much as I can I just might not always be on schedule.

                  NFL TIME BABY!!!!

So I'm excited for this topic because its just a little game I call who's gonna win da big game.

So I'm going to put down some of the best teams in the NFL and you're going to guess whos gonna win "da big game" and the winner by the end of the season will get some of my artwork. Now if you have not yet seen my artwork don't give up because you can use this magical little thing called instagram @sophiesketchesnstretches yes PLEASE follow me if you're not already I beg you! Please do!!

Wedesday Words 28!!! (#WOW)!

                                                           chapter 28

                                                              We

                                                        good girls!

When they got to the school party building, they were so excited! They put away their computers immediately and casually walked in with their boyfriends. "Good evening kids!" said Mr. Compiask (SAY: COMP PEE AHSK) "Good evening!" replied all of them at once. They walked into the speech room. "Good evening graduates!" said Mrs. Lanarndo (SAY: LAN AR DOE) "Congrats for making it through college! Have a good rest of your life, enjoy the party and hope to see you again soon!"

"YAAAAAAAAAAYYYY! WAAAAAAAAAH! WEEEEEEEEEEEH! YAAAHAHOOOOOOOO! WE LOVE YOU MRS. LANARDO!!!!!!!!"

*crying Mrs. Lanardo*

They went and enjoyed the party for two hours. They danced, they tried new foods, they played games and so many more! it was epic! finally they had to go back to their dorm.

They (of course) played more Minecraft.

Sophie Chats With... Scotty Kilwein

Scotty Kilwein, 42, is a piano player at Jellyrolls, a popular dueling piano bar on Walt Disney World’s BoardWalk (fun fact: he’s been playing there since 2002!). When Jellyrolls shut down due to the pandemic in March 2020, Scotty took to playing for family and friends via Facebook Live. His “Lockdown Livestreams” have given rise to a community of friends and supporters affectionately known as “PalPals.”

Scotty earned his bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Dayton (where he was friends with my dad!). He is originally from the Pittsburgh area and went to Upper St. Clair High School. He and his wife, Amanda – the executive producer of the Lockdown Livestreams – have three children (who are also very talented too!): Wilson, 13; Claire, 12; and Emily, 10.

When did you start your interest in music? I was forced to play piano when I was five years old. My parents said, “you have to play the piano.” And I was like, “aww.” Actually, I was really excited about it, and after I did it for a little bit, I just loved it, so I’m glad that they told me I had to do it. And that’s how I first got interested in music.

When did you start your interest in the piano?
I always watched my dad playing the piano and I loved it. When I was teeny-tiny, when I was maybe three years old, I had a tiny little toy piano. I would sit down at the toy piano and pretend to play, and my dad would play right next to me for real. So I just pretended, but I always loved the piano. The piano  is such a great instrument, and when I was growing up we had a big piano in our house and it was just a fancy thing I always wanted to be able to do but (my parents) said, “You have to take lessons before you even sit down and try it.”

Why did your “Lockdown Livestreams” start? Well, I started them because everybody was at home and some people were by themselves. We were all told we had to stay inside and we couldn’t go anywhere or do anything, and we were really lucky because we have technology that allows us to connect with each other. Even though you’re in Pennsylvania right now, and I’m in Florida, we have this technology where we can see each other and we can talk to each other, and I thought it would be really great to share my gift of music with people using the technology that we have at our disposal. That’s really why I started the Lockdown Livestreams, because I really thought, how fun would it be to play music for my friends and my family who are all alone and by themselves in their house and It would be really great to make some music for some of my friends. And I was very excited to have so many people join me and it made me feel really good to be able to share the gift of music.

If you hadn’t gone into music, what career path would you have followed and why? There were a lot of different things I thought would be fun, but if it wasn’t going to be music, I would’ve wanted to be a teacher, because I had so many amazing teachers when I was growing up that I thought what a great gift it would be to try to be a cool teacher like all the great teachers that I had. That’s what I really thought I could do. And when I started college that’s what I actually started to do, I went to college to become a teacher, but I soon realized that I wasn’t as good as all the great teachers I had and I wasn’t going to be as great as them, so I focused more on music at that point.

What’s your favorite song(s) to play? I love so many different types of music. I think the only way I can answer it is that my favorite song changes from day to day, and from time to time, and depending on what mood I’m in. My favorite song to play always changes. Some of my favorite bands and singers are Jimmy Buffett and the Beach Boys, just because they have really upbeat, fun music. My favorite classical composer is an American composer from the 1800s, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and he’s a great composer, I love his classical music.

I love Frank Sinatra music, and I love Michael BublĂ© music, those are some of my favorites to play, because I like to pretend to be Frank Sinatra when I sing and I like to try to do different voices like that. Another favorite is anything that makes the audience happy. So even if it’s a song that I’ve played 1,000 times, it can be a lot of fun for me just to see the audience enjoying it.  And believe it or not, Sophie, there are songs that I’ve played 4,000 times.

What’s the hardest song to play on the piano for you?  There are songs that I wish I could play – those are too hard for me to play. That’s a really good question, because if you practice hard enough you can do anything. Some of the classical songs I play are really tricky and I have to force my fingers to do tricky things, so I would say the classical music is really hard. And the songs that have a lot of words are always really hard too, for me to try to remember all the words. Like when I first learned “My Shot,” from Hamilton, it was SO hard, I was trying to remember all the words and they go by so quickly! There’s another song your mom and dad would know called “It’s the End of the World as We Know It,” (by) REM, and that was a really hard song to learn because there’s SO many words.

Another song that was really hard to learn is “God Only Knows,” by the Beach Boys, and it’s a really, really beautiful song, but the notes and the chords were really tricky when I first learned it. And now that’s one of my favorite songs to play, even though it was one of the hardest to learn. And there’s another song called “The Blue Danube Waltz,” and that’s a tricky one too because it kind of jumps all around. My left hand is jumping back and forth and my right hand is jumping back and forth.
